Origin. Price jokes started long before any announcement. In September 2023 a rumor of a $150 price spread across social media (Dexerto, 6 September 2023). In January 2025 analyst Matthew Ball said parts of the industry hoped for $80 to $100, and "the $100 GTA" became a meme of its own, complete with a prediction market.
How people use it. Fake price tags, "take my money" reactions and comparison images of old $30 GTA boxes next to an $80 or $100 future with code-only boxes and extra purchases. After the reveal, the jokes moved to the $20 gap between editions.
Example. A piggy bank in a party hat, captioned "saving since 2013, still $20 short".
