How the unlock times work
Rockstar has not announced an unlock time. The times above come from the release time that each regional PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listing shows (we checked the PlayStation Store in 29 regions and the Microsoft Store in 7 on 16 October 2026). Both follow the same rule: midnight in the store's main time zone. Where both stores were checked, they agree to the minute.
A few things the listings do not settle:
- Big regions with several time zones. The US and Canada stores list one moment for the whole region: 05:00 UTC, which is midnight on the East Coast and 21:00 on 18 November on the West Coast. The listings do not say whether a console set to Pacific time unlocks then or at its own midnight. Rockstar has not said either.
- Store region, not your location. Each row is a store region: the store your PlayStation or Xbox account belongs to, which is not always the country you are in.
- Times can still move. If Rockstar or a store announces a different time, we change the table the same day.
Release date history
The date moved twice before it held:
- 4 December 2023. Trailer 1 promises 2025 (Rockstar Newswire).
- 2 May 2025. Rockstar moves the game to 26 May 2026 (Rockstar Newswire).
- 6 November 2025. A second move, to Thursday, 19 November 2026. Rockstar said the extra months would let it finish the game "with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve" (Rockstar Newswire).
- 25 June 2026. Pre-orders open at midnight local time.
- 15 October 2026. The Launch Trailer still ends on "arrives November 19" (Rockstar Newswire).
From GTA V (17 September 2013) to GTA 6 it is 4,811 days. The wait became a meme of its own: we keep a dated list of things we got before GTA 6, and the countdown ticks down to your midnight.
Pre-loading and the box
Digital pre-orders can download the game from 12 November 2026, a week before release. The boxed version holds a download code, not a disc, and goes on sale on 12 November so that it can pre-load too. The download size is not announced yet. Details: GTA 6 preload.
