GTA 6 preload: when it starts and how big the download is

Who can pre-load

• Digital pre-orders, Standard or Ultimate Edition, from the PlayStation Store or the Microsoft Store. Rockstar: players who pre-order digital versions "will be able to begin pre-loading on November 12" (Rockstar Newswire).
• Boxed copies, once you redeem the code inside. The box has no disc: it holds a download code and reaches shops on 12 November "to support pre-loading", in Rockstar's words.

Pre-loading only downloads the game. You can start playing when your store unlocks it: unlock times by region.

How to pre-load

On PS5: buy or pre-order the digital version, then open the game in your library and download it once pre-loading opens. For the download to start by itself, the PlayStation Store notes that Automatic Login and Auto Sign-In must be switched on in the console's settings.

On Xbox Series X|S: pre-order in the Microsoft Store, then open the game in the store or in your library and choose Install when pre-loading opens.

With a box: redeem the code from the box in your console's store first. Only then the download starts.

How big is GTA 6?

Nobody official has said. On 16 October 2026, neither Rockstar nor the PlayStation Store nor the Microsoft Store shows a size, so any number you see now is a guess. Stores usually show the size once a game can be downloaded: we will add it here with the store and the date the moment it appears.
