Origin. The oldest example Know Your Meme links to is a tweet from 12 June 2020, posted right after the PS5 reveal: "We really got both PS4 & PS5 before GTA 6". The format took off on 27 July 2023, when TikTok user @jadendunn joked "we got aliens before GTA 6" the day after a US House hearing on UFOs.
How people use it. Any surprising headline becomes the X: a new Pope in May 2025, a new Nintendo console, a total solar eclipse. In March 2025 even wrestler John Cena joined in after his long-awaited turn to villain.
Example. A news alert about a rocket booster caught by its own launch tower, captioned "we got this before GTA 6".
The literal joke ends on 19 November 2026. "Before GTA 6 on PC" is already waiting.
